Margie's Comments: I have yet to pick up a Melody Carlson book and be disappointed. Dating, Dining, and Desperation is the sequel to Lock, Stock, and Over a Barrel, and picks up the story of Daphne inheriting her Aunt Dee's estate. Even the conditions. But her heart is taking a beating in the process. The author's development of her main character continues in this book. And Daphne is a wonderful person. Someone I would love to call friend in "real life." The book comes to another satisfying end, but with enough loose ends to make me want to read more. I hope there will be another Dear Daphne novel in the future.

Margie's Comments: What an absolutely fun read! I love Sandie Bricker's humor, and it didn't disappoint in Merry Humbug Christmas. It is laugh-out-loud funny as the two friends tumble in and out of trouble. The characters are fully fleshed out. Their struggles and the life lessons they learn are ones I wrestle with often. For those who love to read Christmas-themed books in December, this is an excellent holiday getaway. I highly recommend this latest release from Sandra Bricker.

Margie's Comments: What a wonderfully delightful story to read! Even with the "bad" stuff that happens to Hope, she soon learns that God can bring incredible good out of the hard stuff in life. The characters are well-drawn from Hope's grandmother, mother, best friend to Sam, Jake, and the rest of this wonderful cast of characters. Soon after the beginning of the book, events take a surprising twist and some fun scenes follow. It gives a whole new meaning to seeing a story from two sides. Hence the title. Truly loved this fun read.

Margie's Comments: I didn't get as far in reading A Plain Disappearance as I had hoped to be able to write a review. This is the first book I've read in this series, and I'm enjoying it so far. I already know I want to go back and read the other two books. I will post a review when I've finished reading this book.

Margie's Comments: I always look forward to a new book from Brandilyn Collins, and Dark Justice did not disappoint. Classic Collins' style, the story zips from start to finish in a hard-to-put-down read. Great characters with compelling personal issues compounded by the situation they are thrust into. Hannah Shire, her mother who suffers from dementia, and her daughter are all thrown into a terror of circumstances set off by a seemingly spur-of-the moment decision to drive home by a little-traveled scenic route. All the action is crammed into two terrifying days, as Hannah strives to keep her mother and daughter alive and out of danger. I highly recommend Dark Justice by Brandilyn Collins.

Margie's Comments: I love Melody Carlson's books, so I was thrilled to review her newest release, Lock, Stock, and Over a Barrel. The author's ability to create believable and lovable characters and to do so even with a fairly large cast of characters is once again evident in this story. I've been to Appleton, Wisconsin, and am familiar with many other small towns in the Midwest. So when Daphne came home in the story, I, too, came along with her. As I continued to read of the many changes Daphne faced with her eccentric aunt's bequest (and secrets), I wished I could have known Aunt Dee. I truly wanted the story to continue, and would have gladly read a much longer book, so I am glad to know there's another book in this series featuring Daphne and her new/old friends. Such a fun read—a great book to take along with you on vacation or to curl up with at home.

I’m a wife, mother, and bona fide Southern belle. Published author, expert corn bread maker, and Squirrel Princess.

I live in Tulsa, though I was born in Mississippi. I moved to the Sooner State when I was seventeen and met my soul mate and best friend not long after. I’ve retained a little of my Mississippi accent though most people think I’m from Texas. (?)  Rob and I have been married for over twenty years and have a son–a mom proclaimed prodigy, of course!

I love homemade tacos, shoes, and romance novels–not necessarily in that order. I’m a big fan of country music, a staunch proponent of saving the Oxford comma, and I’m shamefully obsessed with all things Harry Potter.

I  believe that God is love. I guess that’s why I adore romances. 

I have always been intrigued with the Amish culture, their gentle ways and slower-paced lifestyle. (And I love, love, love the fact that they stay married for their lifetime.) But until recently I never thought to blend this interest with my penchant for romance. Okay, okay, I’m a bit old-fashioned and even enjoy the gender roles that are present in this culture.  I love to cook and take care of my family. Yes, that’s me June Cleaver with a laptop.

I dislike people trying to convince me to read the Twlight series (I’ll get to it or I won’t, either way I’m good with it), gratuitous violence, and strawberry ice cream. (I know I’m alone on this last one, and again, I’m good with it.)

Favorite movies–(besides HP) French Kiss, Maid of Honor, A Lot Like Love, Just Married, and Sweet Home Alabama. Oh, and Miss Congeniality, Sabrina (both versions) and a 1940′s movie called Dear Ruth. If you haven’t seen it, you should! A-dorable. Anything with Doris Day and most all of Marilyn’s and Audrey’s.

A man’s lifeless body is found in the fresh soil of San Diego’s botanical garden. Cause of death is asphyxiation, an easy call for the medical examiner. More mysterious, however, are the tiny drops of blood on the victim’s skin, resulting from hundreds of punctures.

A rabbi leaving his house for work expects a regular day at the synagogue. That quickly changes when he discovers a dead man on his front lawn, clearly beaten to death.

Motorcycle riders racing along the empty streets of an abandoned military base stumble across another man’s corpse, its skin revealing long, red-purple marks of a thrashing given with wood dowels.

The numbers mount. Each week another victim and another mysterious clue in a game of mass murder the police don’t want to lose. The solution rests with Dr. Ellis Poe, a religious professor who only wishes to be left alone with his books and classes.

But evil must be faced, and the choice is no longer his own.
